Carte Blanche Wines Wine Barrels

Domaine Michel Cheveau

Domaine Michel Cheveau is a 14 hectare family estate run by Nicolas Cheveau. His cellars and vineyards are immaculate and are clearly run with meticulous care. Although small, the cave is full of large oak barrels, new and old, barriques and small capacity stainless steel vats that are neatly lined and spotlessly clean. The fruit is hand harvested from low yielding vines grown in various parcels of vineyard that are spread from St. Amour to Davayé, though the core of the domaine is situated around Pouilly. Nicolas' wines are superbly judged and beautifully balanced, putting them among the very best examples of the appellations they are attributed too. The white wines that we stock have lovely purity and concentration, with delightful minerality and nutty, white flower notes. Sadly only tiny quantities are produced, but these are wines that should not be missed. His Macon is Pouilly-Fuissé in all but name. It is unoaked and is produced from a small parcel of 16 year old vines grown on poor, stony clay-limestone soils on the appellation boundary, whose name "Sur le Mont" gives a clue to its location. This parcel of fruit is vinified in stainless steel to keep its Macon personality and then kept on fine lees to add richness. “Trois Terroirs” is a blend from three parcels of vines situated in Solutré-Pouilly and Fuissé. We have recently added "Aux Bouthières" to our range and it offers mouthwatering flavour, power and elegance.

Macon Solutre-Pouilly 2010

"An inviting nose with a hint of creaminess, hazelnuts and juicy yellow peach. Gentle roundness and weight, apricot tang and crisp apple. This really opens up and spreads across the mouth. Backbone of minerality. Real intensity. Tense acidity. Long. Superb." Wines of the week, www.jancisrobinson.com
