Domaine de la Chapelle, Philippe Pichard
Domaine de la Chapelle is based in the pretty village of Cravant-les-Côteaux, to the east of the town of Chinon. Philippe is an open-minded vigneron who has converted to organic viticulture and is currently trialling biodynamic viticulture. He wants to keep himself and his vines in the best possible health, as well as those who eventually drink his wines! The wines are vinified in oak vats, all within 10 years of age, and then aged in steel or barrique depending on the cuvée. All of Philippe’s wines express the minerality, supple tannins and varietal expression of ripe Loire Cabernet Franc. Les Gravinières comes from fruit that is grown on the gravelly plains close to the River Vienne and has a lovely fruity, straightforward style.
