On first meeting Monsieur and Madam Jean Luc Farraud seem to be an unlikely looking couple to be leaving co-op’s, converting to organic and biodynamic viticulture and reducing yields form their 9 hectares of vineyard, but this is what they are doing. As a result they are one of the most exciting finds in this region, producing wines of sheer class that frankly impress from the first moment they are tasted. They have 1.5 hectares in Vacqueyras and a tiny plot of Cotes du Rhone in the commune, and here they make a most delicious white from Grenache Blanc, Viognier and Clairette, as well as perfumed and vibrant rouge. The Gigondas is hearty and fulsome, but with a serious, layered complexity that will fill out over time. The vineyard backs onto the Dentelles, albeit at slightly lower altitude than
most, and are beautifully tended, the results of the organic conversion already obvious. The Cotes du Rhone is a mini Vacqueyras really, but is incredible wine, really its own thing. Only 1300 bottles are produced.
