Tete Rouge is located in the newly defined Puy-Notre-Dame sub-zone of Saumur in the heart of the village. There are 13 hectares of vineyards planted to Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Pineau d’Aunis and concentrated on chalk and clay, typical of the region. The vineyards here are in amazing locations and the exposure and microclimates create some exceptional expressions (particularly where there is some iron rich soil). Enchentoir is a one of the finest Chenin Blanc
wines form this region we have tasted this year, smoky, intense, so vital and concentrated; Tete d’Ange is open and fun with a broader structure. Bagatelle is a soifable Cabernet Franc whilst Pierre au Feu is a parcel selection Cabernet Franc planted on iron rich soils, it is intense and deeply hewn, but has a ferric undertone and mineral freshness that indicates a very gentle hand in the winery, and finally K’ Sa Tête Pineau d’Aunis is available in June and is perfumed fresh and simple delicious (sorry, not very imaginative, but it paints the picture). Guillauime Raynouard is one of the winemakers we think will be among the next wave of names to follow in the Loire, and we are super excited about presenting the wines.
